Forever Strong by Dr. Gabrielle Lyon
This book is all about wellness, fitness, how our body works based on the latest scientific discoveries, written by a physician who is practicing in the States. You can follow her on FB and see it yourself that she lives what she says! This book gives you everything you need for a healthy or healthier lifestyle with practical suggestions. She tells you how your body works and what you need to do to get or stay strong with a muscle- and protein-centric lifestyle. The book contains meal plans, workout plans and tells you all the secrets on how to calculate your numbers for eating, for protein intake, calories, healthy weight and much more. You need this book on your shelf! I use it every once in a while to double check or clarify things. She says on page 281: `Wether you come to this information as a physician, a coach, or simply a person interested in wellness, this book will stand by your side with the information an encouragement you need to support you in making real change.` The motto for this book could be: `You have the right to be healthy. You don’t deserve to be in pain.`
The Forever Strong Playbook by Dr Gabrielle Lyon
This is a very useful book if you want to step up in your health life, restart or fine tune. This is an actual workbook for how to think about your healthy life, how to eat, how to workout and how to recover. There are step by step guides for all four acts. As the author said: “this playbook will guide you through a six-week program”, “this playbook is your invitation to reclaim your strength”, this book will help you to “start building real mental, physical and metabolic strength”. The author is a straight shooter, she will ask you very real, very important questions like: “Is this action aligned with who I want to be and how I want to feel?” Or “Will this move me towards, or away from, what I truly want?”.
This playbook gives you some very important knowledge about wellness and fitness life but it is not a replacement of her previous book, the Forever Strong. The previous book is about facts and how to calculate your needs and almost everything that you need to know about your healthy body and the healthy living. But this book, The Forever Strong Playbook gives you the actual things that you need to do. It means it has practical action guide about how to talk to yourself to improve and to be motivate or at least to do the right step and not let yourself down. The book contains recipes with a portion control guide without the scale and six week workout program with the actual movements and reps with illustrations. Don’t forget we need to recover after strength training so there is a whole chapter about it, talking through our sleep schedules, the different lighting that we are getting, as well as temperature control and stretches.
I would like to highlight that Dr Gabrielle Lyon is suggesting to consume meat as protein focused eating, so this book is not for vegetarians and she favoritizes strength training with weights! If you don’t agree with these two main things, this book is not for you. If you are willing to eat meat and lift weights and looking forward to lift heavier weights later, this is the book you will use everyday because six weeks are already planned out.
I loved every page of this book and I think it is very useful. If she will write and publish another book in the future, I will pre-order it for sure.
Hormone havoc by Amy Shah MD
This book was a real eye opener about the hormonal changes that women go through during menopause. Dr Shah covers all stages of menopause, the perimenopause, the menopause and the post-menopause. She talks about the symptoms like, why this is happening, what’s going on in our body, and gives us solutions of what we can do right now at home. Her approach to health is more holistic than medication related. Basically she tells us to what to eat, how much to eat, how to move and when. The steps are so simple, affordable and easy that I was able to change a few things around right away. She tells us why it is so hard for women at this stage to keep our healthy weight but at the same time she says if we maintain a healthy estrogen level than we have a lower risk to gain weight. Her protocol is designed to do just that! The end of the book contains not just a sample of one week of what to do and eat but a good amount of recipes.
The author is a practicing doctor in the States, she is a double-board-certified doctor of medicine, specialized in allergy/immunology and internal medicine. She spent more than two decades as a nutrition specialist while In medical school she also completed two years of research, studying women’s hormones and how they affect the immune system.
I was so excited about the changes I was able to make I shared it with my friend right away and it is working! This book is going to stay in my library for a while to make sure I can research in it again if it’s needed!
